The publication presents a visionary and unusual representative of Viennese modernism. With his avant-garde contributions, the artist, designer, architect, set designer and exhibition organizer Friedrich Kiesler (1890–1965) influenced the European and American art scene and continues to attract great interest internationally today. The focus is on Kiesler's holistic work and his theory of correalism, with which he addressed the relationship between the work of art, people and the environment, as well as his innovative exhibition practice. Works created especially for the exhibition by the artists Leonor Antunes, Céline Condorelli, Verena Dengler, Lili Reynaud-Dewar, Apolonija Šušteršicˇ and Rirkrit Tiravanija open up a view of Kiesler's significance for the present.
Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name (June 15th – October 2nd, 2016) at the MAK
In cooperation with the Austrian Friedrich and Lillian Kiesler Private Foundation.
