"He was already successful when I was just starting out... you could learn a lot from him" - this is how Billy Wilder described the Austrian commercial artist, film designer, designer and illustrator Ernst Deutsch-Dryden (1887-1938) in 1989. Whether as a fashion illustrator for Coco Chanel, as a poster designer for the renowned printing company Hollerbaum and Schmidt or as an illustrator for the magazines "Vogue" and "Elegante Welt", the multi-talented artist always set new trends with his designs. For example, he designed the entire design concept for the Viennese men's outfitter Knize, from the graphic label to perfumes and clothing. In the field of commercial art, Ernst Deutsch-Dryden is one of the protagonists of a new poster style in Austria. In 1933 he emigrated to the USA and designed films such as Richard Boleslawski's "Garden of Allah", the first Technicolor film with Marlene Dietrich in 1936, and Josef von Sternberg's "The Prisoner of Zenda".
