The work of the artists of the Wiener Werkstätte has a worldwide reputation, but the artists have so far received only sporadic interest. The ceramists Gudrun Baudisch, Susi Singer and Vally Wieselthier are well known, Mathilde Flögl, Hilda Jesser, Maria Likarz and Felice Rix still evoke associations, but only experts know Martha Alber, Rose Krenn or Margarete Reingold.
In the course of the MAK research, around 180 female artists were named, whose involvement in the development of Viennese arts and crafts is presented for the first time in this exhibition catalog. He analyzes the profession of “artist” and its emancipatory potential, but above all illustrates the creativity of the designers, which helped to establish the unique position of the Wiener Werkstätte.
- Around 180 designers from the Wiener Werkstätte
- First documentation and contributions from international experts
- A wide range of products from the areas of graphics, textile design, fashion, decor, toys and ceramics
