Study on Gladiolus colvillii
Johann Knapp (1778-1833) was a chamber painter at the Austrian court and documented the botanical holdings of the imperial gardens and greenhouses at the beginning of the 19th century. With his precise panel paintings depicting fruits and flowers of native and exotic plants, he created an extensive body of work that was continued after his death by his son Joseph (1810-1867).
